I am on the side of the mountain with a large group of people, most look like soldiers. The only person I know is L. We are cooking "steak burgers" (something I just had in real life two days ago), I like mine rare, it seems to be being cooked by the leader. Her's she would like well done, but I already put it on her plate for her, and it was rare. As I put it there, it fell apart. So I take the pieces and strategically place them back on the grill to cook. I check the inside of each of the pieces to see if it is still rare. I use the skew and knife and look inside my own wrist and see two eyeballs there.
At the bottom of the mountain there is a river, the area looks a lot like Mississippi. There is a fat man in a run-down steamboat that looks like it will not run. Only the shell is visible, there is no paddle or steam stacks.
Somewhere a long the line the leader tells me that my eyes have been taken out, more specifically my left one, and they are in my wrist for safe keeping. I look at my wrist, and they remind me of eyeballs 'n goo, they are just sitting in there, the cut where there were inserted is still open. I ask if there is a doctor around to give me stitches, a man says yes I am Dr. Mengele, the name I recognize instantly as the Nazi doctor of inhumane experiments.
I follow him up the mountain but I don't want him to do the stitches, I tell him I don't believe my eyes have been taken out because I can feel my left eye with my hand, and when I close my right eye I can still see. He says that those things are an illusion. I feel like I am in a prison, but have enough freedom to move around.
On our dock there was a boat, I saw a map though that there was a sister island like ours that had an identical boat, a pontoon speedboat. The Russians are trying to invade the island. They are using that identical boat to dock, our troops mobilize. I look down and the fat man is moving the steamboat out into the river to get a better view. His boat begins to sink, when he goes under water his body floats one way and his head the other. He still seems conscious however and this doesn't seem to bother him. I am still concerned about my eyeballs falling out of my wrist.
After the invasion is quelled, I go back to saying how I don't believe this is all real. I spot a bear, now I am going to prove it. I go over, looking at the bear I realize that it is made of cotton fabric, so I pull back the sleeve to reveal a woman's blouse, it is silver. I tear away the bear costume and a woman is under it. Small, blond, petite, vaguely familiar but I don't know her. She thanks me, and follows me around. She is beautiful, the physical embodiment of my desired companion.
Finally I convince Dr. Mengele that I know this is all fake. He finally gives up. Everyone the new girl, the Doctor, and myself disappear. Two aliens are the replacement, like the end of a Star Trek episode. The doctor explains it was all an illusion, I fail however to get the details, I start struggling to stay in the dream.
I speed down the mountain, things are getting fuzzier. I tell the girl from the bear suit that I like her by putting up a message on a diamond shaped street sign kept at her personal cove on the mountain, someone else puts of a sign that says they love her. She complains because it will cost her money, she was supposed to be the one to use the sign. She wonders who did it and I can't remember if I told her or not.
The dream shifts, once at the bottom I am in a convention hall. I have my arm around L she wrote a poem and it is in one of those send away poetry books, though this one is gold leaf bound and looks ancient. Dr Mengele is here as well, though he doesn't say anything. I the book up and in the front cover is a three dimantional model of the convention hall we are in, in the back cover is a model of a bar, strange I think.
I can't hold myself in it.
